This scenario-based eLearning concept project designed as a personal project for my portfolio. Using background research on obesity, I developed this project to target young adults ages 18-35 who are, or show markers of being, obese. The scenario-based course engages the learner in real-life scenes about healthy choices and the health consequences of our choices.
Audience: Patients ages 18-35 who are, or show marker of being, obese
Responsibilities: Instructional Design, Action Mapping, Needs Analysis, Research, Storyboarding, Visual Design, Mockups, eLearning Development
Tools Used: Articulate Storyline, Canva, Vyond, Google Docs, Mindmeister, ChatGPT, Google Scholar
KPI: Achieve a minimum of 25% increase in participation of young adults in obesity managment programs within the first year of course introduction.
In contemporary society, the prevalence of obesity among young adults has become a pressing public health concern. Despite efforts to address this issue, there remains a gap in providing comprehensive education and support for young adults to adopt healthy habits. Research indicates a lack of emphasis on interventions tailored to this demographic, resulting in limited access to resources addressing fundamental aspects of healthy living, including nutrition and physical activity.

Current interventions for young adults with obesity or markers of obesity often lack comprehensive education on healthy habits, including nutrition and physical activity. This gap in support contributes to the perpetuation of unhealthy lifestyles and exacerbates the prevalence of obesity in this demographic. Without accessible and tailored resources, young adults face challenges in understanding and implementing sustainable lifestyle changes to improve their health outcomes.
To address the identified gap in support for young adults struggling with obesity, the implementation of an eLearning course on healthy habits is proposed. This course aims to provide accessible and personalized education on fundamental aspects of healthy living, including understanding the principles of nutrition and dietary choices, as well as recognizing the importance of regular physical activity. By offering engaging and informative content through an eLearning platform, this solution seeks to empower young adults to develop personalized strategies for adopting and maintaining healthy habits, thereby promoting long-term improvements in their overall health and well-being.
Utilizing the ADDIE model as my framework, I initiated my process by pinpointing a pertinent issue for a specific audience demographic. My initial research delved into the realm of obesity among young adults, aiming to discern a particular challenge and unearth authentic scenarios where individuals in this demographic encounter health and wellness decisions.
My process included action mapping in Mindmeister and leveraging ChatGPT to enhance my objectives, cultivate ideas, and craft scenarios.
Understand the fundamentals of healthy nutrition and dietary choices
Recognize the importance of regular physical activity and develop a personalized exercise
Using my knowledge as a life science instructor and research, I acted as the subject matter expert (SME) for the action mapping process.
I used ChatGPT to draft a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) appropriate for a health clinic and related to eLearning. My "client" for this concept project intended to use the eLearning for patients. Based on this, the KPI involved an increase in participation. From this KPI, I brainstormed why a patient might decide to participate.
I determined a Wellness Self Assessment could be used at the beginning and end of the course to give participants a measurement of improvement. I did not want to guarantee weight loss.
Using Vyond, I developed visual mockups. The images here are for the first scenario of module one: Lunchtime Dilemma.
Development in Articulate Storyline is in the works!
